Crimson Tide continues roll toward unbeaten season

-

Seven wins last week wasn’t the worst picking I’ve done. I admit I thought Georgia would take care of business during Homecoming against the perennial bottom-feeding Commodores from Vanderbilt. Alas, no, but there’s always this week, which I enter with 66 correct picks and 24 losses.

UMASS at S. CAROLINA — You should be able to find more than a few people who think UMass may have the worst team in all of football. This is a good team to have as visitors for Will Muschamp, and nobody needs to win more than the Gamecock coach, with the exception of Texas’ Charlie Strong. Gamecocks triumph, 31-20.

TEXAS A&M at ALABAMA — Look quick! Texas A&M is undefeated. Now look. They’ve lost one. The Crimson Tide, with a sparkling new quarterback and a tried-andtrue defense, will march up and down the field with not that much opposition as the Aggies learn there is only one way to the SEC title and that’s through Tuscaloosa. Alabama scores on defense at least once and A&M NORMAN AREY loses at least once, say 38-21.

ARKANSAS at AUBURN — Even those who know much more than I (the bookies) are picking Auburn by nine points. I don’t care, but I’m not sold on the Tiger offense. In fact, 4-2 is probably much better than they should be. The Razorbacks reflect their coach’s nastiness and are tough as nails and will run and pass themselves into a win in the bosom of the War Eagle, 28-23.

OLE MISS at LSU — The Les Mileless Bengals just ain’t the same without their old coach. Ole Miss isn’t the same team we thought they were going to be before the season started either. After losing to Arkansas last week, the Rebels are a woeful 3-3 and the 4-2 Tigers want to look good at home, win 30-21.

HOUSTON at SMU — I’m not sure how happy Houston may be after finding out they won’t be moving into the Big XII. SMU is just happy to be home. That way they won’t have so far to travel after losing badly to the Cougars to lick their considerable wounds. I’m going with the Cougs, 42-16.

TEXAS at KANSAS STATE — Oh well, maybe the Longhorns can win one against the Wildcats. The only meaningful win the Bill Snyder team has is against Texas Tech and it stands only 3-3. Bill Snyder
