ALZHEIMER’S GOLF TOURNAMENT — The Doc Miller Memorial Alzheimer’s Walk Benefit Golf Tournament will be Saturday at Callier Springs Country Club. Tee off is at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the two-person scramble. The cost is $100 per team and proceeds will go to the Doc Miller Memorial Alzheimer’s Walk. Registration is at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the day of the tournament. Raffles and giveaway will be held as well as longest drive and closest to the pin contests. YOUTH BASKETBALL PLAYERS — Teams of local youth basketball players are being formed to play in a recreation basketball league in Calhoun for boys ages 15-17 who are not playing high school basketball. Parents are welcome to attend practices. For more information call 706-232-3857.
HALL OF FAME GOLF TOURNAMENT — The Willard Nixon Sports Hall of Fame Golf Tournament will be Oct. 27 at Stonebridge Golf Course to benefit the John Pinson Jr. Student Athlete Award Scholarship Program sponsored by the Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame. Team entry is $300 and covers green fees, cart fees, range balls and lunch for a team of four. Hole sponsorships are also available. YOUTH WRESTLING SIGN-UPS — The Legion Youth Wrestling Club is taking new members for the upcoming season. Interested wrestlers and parents can talk to coaches Randy Roden and Lonergon Honore on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Rome High School auxiliary gym.
BERRY COLLEGE SOFTBALL ELITE CAMP — The Berry College softball program is presenting an Elite Camp on Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The camp includes offensive and defensive instruction from Berry coaches, players and alumni. CLUB VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS — The Rome Area Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for girls ages 8-18 over the next month at Shorter University’s Winthrop-King Centre. Tryouts for ages 15-18 are Nov. 1 from 6-8 p.m. A make-up date for all ages will be Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon. The tryout fee is $35 and includes a T-shirt with pre-registration. SOUTH ROME GOLF TOURNAMENT — The 2016 South Rome Open will be Nov. 7 at Coosa Country Club to benefit the South Rome Redevelopment Corp. Registration for the four-man scramble begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. Deadline for registration is Oct. 28. For more information call 706236-4477.
CELEBRITY SHOOTOUT GOLF TOURNAMENT — The Rome Braves and the Floyd County Police Department will host the eighth annual Celebrity Shootout Golf Tournament on Nov. 11 at Stonebridge Golf Club. The tournament will be a scramble format with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. The event will feature current and former Rome and Atlanta greats. The team fee is $400 which includes lunch, post-tournament appetizers and a VIP welcome bag. Individual golfers can register for $100. Hole sponsorships are available. ROME HALF MARATHON — The 2016 River City Bank Rome Half Marathon will be Dec. 3 at State Mutual Stadium. A half-marathon relay and 5K will be held in addition to the 13.1-mile race.
