The Coosa Eagles’ final home game of the season turned sour as they fell to visiting Rockmart 47-6, only getting on the board in the final play of the game Friday night.

Coosa (3-5, 2-3 Region 7-AA) will have to win over Model in their next game to keep their hopes alive of getting into the Class AA state playoffs, said head coach Todd Wheeler.

“Next week is a big game for us,” Wheeler said. “We’re going to have to come back and regroup Monday and be ready to get back to work. We’ve still got two more games left this season and we’ve got to salvage what’s left.”

Rockmart’s (6-2, 4-1 region 7-AA) seven touchdowns came from a variety of Jackets, with D’Lante McClain putting up a 40yard run to kick off the run of seven unanswered touchdowns through four quarters. Zabrion Whatley added another 75-yard run to the end zone, followed not long after by Dylan Bailey connecting with Koby Adams for a 20-yard pass ending in a touchdown.

Blake Holloman put up a 44yard run, and Morgan Sims a 4yard run to end scoring on the ground for the night before halftime.
