Darlington rolls past Christian Heritage

The Tigers ride Elijah McKoy and Tijai Whatley for the win.

With Elijah McKoy and Tijai Whatley, Darlington doesn’t have to change its offensive strategy often. And that was certainly the situation Friday night.

The Darlington Tigers rode behind a dominating run game to a 42-7 win against Christian Heritage on Homecoming at Darlington.

It’s Darlington’s third straight win by 20 points or more and wraps up regular season play for the Tigers.

McKoy accumulate­d 117 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, while Whatley gained 60 yards and a score. Cameron Evans completed four passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns, with all of the passes going to Whatley.

first quarter. After Whatley ran for a 16-yard touchdown and caught a 39-yard touchdown pass, McKoy finished the quarter with a 55-yard touchdown run.

McKoy added two more touchdowns early in the second quarter, and Whatley finished the half with a 24-yard touchdown catch from Evans. The Tigers led by 42 points at

halftime, and the tailback duo had finished their night after only one half.

The Lions (1-7, 1-4) were able to get a score on their final drive of the game, as quarterbac­k Brandon Poag threw a 51yard touchdown with minutes left in the game.

yards despite running the ball 21 times. The Lions’ lead rusher gained only 10 yards against a Darlington unit that has allowed only 21 points the past three games.

Darlington is off next week and will host a Region 6-A play-in game on Nov. 4 against an opponent from the “B” subdivisio­n that has yet to be decided.
