Hunter wins 2 events in Darlington, Rome meet
The Wolves finished tied for first while the Lady Wolves earn second in the team standings.
Mason Hunter won two events and the Rome Wolves and Lady Wolves came out ahead of host Darlington in a three-team swim meet on Tuesday.
Rome tied for first with Blessed Trinity in the boys’ competition, while Blessed Trinity’s girls won the overall team standings, followed by Rome and Darlington.
Hunter took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.22 seconds, beating out Darlington’s Samson Mumber, who finished second in 59.15.
Hunter also won the 100 breaststroke by coming in at 59.65. Kent Schirmacher complete the 1-2 Rome finish by posting a second place time of 1:06.59 in the event.
Ellis Marrs won the 200 intermediate medley for the Wolves with a time of 2:21.72 and came in second in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.67. Luchiano Hasko won the 500 freestyle in 6:08.78.
Rome’s relay teams also had a good night as they swept the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay events for both the boys and girls.
The Wolves’ 200 medley relay team won in 1:44.99, while their 200 freestyle relay finished in 1:35.55. The Lady Wolves’ 200 medley relay team took first with a time of 1:56.98 and their 200 freestyle relay team came in at 1:50.51.
Mumber won the 200 freestyle for Darlington with a time of 1:54.44, while Tanner Shadday took first in the 1-meter diving competition.
In the girls’ competition, Rome’s Megan Harrell won the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.94 and took second in the 100 backstroke by coming in at 1:07.50.
Viola Hasko added another first place for the Lady Wolves by taking first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.61.
Rome will host Calhoun and Cass next Tuesday.
