Coastal city relaxing sign ordinance

-

ST. MARYS — A coastal Georgia city has agreed to temporarily relax limits on business signage in an effort to help local merchants during the holidays.

The News of Brunswick reports St. Marys business owners asked City Hall for more leeway to advertise special events after suffering setbacks in 2016.

The local visitor center on Interstate 95 was closed until late summer. Hurricane Matthew in October was also painful, particularly because it closed Cumberland Island to the public for several weeks. Tourists must come to downtown St. Marys to catch ferry boats to the federally protected island.
