Here’s a look at what’s happening in other parts of Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama:

CENTRE, Ala. — A Rome woman is one of three former employees of Cherokee County Health & Rehabilitation Center in Centre, Alabama, facing charges related to their alleged criminal neglect of an 84-year-old resident, according to Attorney General Steven T. Marshall. According to Marshall: Michele Curry, 42, of Centre, Alabama; Kacey Allen, 28, also of Centre; and Shawna Rogers, 26, of Rome were arrested Friday and have been released on bond.

The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit presented evidence to a Cherokee County grand jury, resulting in indictments, handed down Feb. 15, charging each defendant with one felony count of elder abuse/neglect in the second degree.

Curry, a licensed practical nurse, along with Rogers and Allen, certified nursing assistants, were responsible for the care of the bedridden resident throughout the night of Sept. 3 into the morning of Sept. 4.

They all charted that they had entered the room numerous times throughout the night. But a review of the surveillance video showed none of them entered the room for approximately 11 hours. When the resident was checked on, it was discovered that she had sustained 100 ant bites.
