Mrs. Betty Jean Neighbors, age 83 of Rome passed away Saturday February 25, in a local hospital.

Dacin Brett Lowe, age 40, passed away at his residence in Rome, Georgia, on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Born October 10, 1976 in Anniston, Alabama. Dacin worked at Floyd Medical Center for 12 years as a highly respected & much requested Certified Surgical Technologi­st.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bart Lowe. He was survived by his sons, Deion Lowe, Mavryck Brown-Lowe, & Lyrick Lowe. Also his mother, Cindy Lowe, & 2 sisters, Pam Mason & Jenna Hickman. Ronnie Eugene Storey, age 69, of Rome passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at his residence.

Ronnie was born September 13, 1947 in Floyd County a son of the late James Storey and Margie Welchel Storey.

He was employed by MarGlen Industries, for many years and later retiring from Tip Top Auto Sales.

He was of the Baptist Faith, and was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Storey, and sister, Sheila Kennamer. Survivors include his wife, Aileen Williams Storey, children, Tim (Jill) Storey, Cartersvil­le; Shane Storey, Rome: Steven (Amy) Storey, Rome; Stacey (Scott) Stanley, Rome; 8 grandchild­ren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Clinton Green, and Tim Storey, officiatin­g. The family will receive friends from 1:30 P.M. until 3:30 P.M. on Sunday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

Mr. Clyde Cook age 67, of Rome passed away Saturday February 25, 2017 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday February 28, 2017 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Robby Eversole, and Michael Pharris, officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until the hour of the service on Tuesday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165. Mrs. Ava Lee Aycock Horton, age 97, of Rome, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017, at Riverwood Senior Living in Rome. Mrs. Horton was born in Floyd County on March 19, 1919, daughter of the late Richard Cornelius “Dick” Aycock and the late Ava Beard Aycock.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Godfrey Horton, by 2 sons, Forrest Wayne “Dumpy” Horton and Richard Joe “Cookie” Horton, by a sister, Florence Aycock Fowler, by 2 brothers, Joe Bradford Aycock and William Raymond Aycock, and by a special family member, Wayman Marian Holder. Although Ava Lee was a lifelong resident of the Fourth Ward Community of Floyd County, her early childhood years were spent on the Berry College Farms.

She was the eldest member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Known as the Matriarch of Fourth Ward, Ava Lee never met a stranger. A humble women with many God-given talents, she ministered to the needs of her family, friends, and community through her sacrificia­l gifts. She graciously shared meals with people from all walks of life, every nationalit­y and ethnicity.

She lovingly handstitch­ed beautiful quilts for her family, friends, and those in need.

An exceptiona­l seamstress, Ava Lee created cheerleade­r and majorette uniforms for many East Rome and West Rome high school teams.

She operated Horton’s Beauty Shop out of her home for many years. Throughout the years, she opened her home to those in need of shelter and extended convalesce­nce.

Survivors include a special cousin, Jerry Ann Aycock Holder, Rome; nieces and nephews including David Marlin Fowler, Sr., and his wife, Linda, Rome, William Ray Fowler, and special friend, Evelyn Bragg, Rome; Jackie Howton, Douglasvil­le, William Cordele “Billy” Aycock, Douglasvil­le, Joseph Alan “Rip” Aycock, and his wife, June, Lindale, and Charlotte Ayers, Lindale; great nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017, at 1 pm at the graveside in East View Cemetery. The Rev. Horace Stewart will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tapestry Hospice, 1089 Red Bud Road, Calhoun, GA 30701 or to the Open Door Home, 5 Leon Street, Rome, GA 30165.

Mrs. Bernice Brooks Murphy, age 92, formerly of Rome, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, in a Lawrencevi­lle extended care facility.

Mrs. Murphy was born on April 15, 1924, in Jackson County, Alabama, daughter of the late Claude Alvin Brooks and the late Lexie Adams Brooks. She was a graduate of Rome Girls High School and married her high school sweetheart, Gordon L. “Jim” Murphy in 1943 and he preceded her in death in 1977. She had spent the greater part of her life in Rome and Dalton. Prior to her retirement, she was a customer service representa­tive with Trend Mills and retired from Image Carpets. After her retirement she and her special friend Jack traveled the world together. She was a member of West Rome Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Whittenbur­g, 2 brothers, Leslie Brooks and O. J. Brooks, sister, Cloyce B. Millsap, a very special nephew, Scott Millsap, and her very special friend, Jack Lewis Van Es.

Survivors include her grandsons, Kenneth Ogles and his wife Kelly, and Scott Whittenbur­g, and his wife, Andrea, both of Rocky Face, and Aaron Whittenbur­g, Calhoun; great-grandchild­ren, Katie Ogles, Anna Belle Whittenbur­g, Savannah Whittenbur­g, Taylor Bernice Brooks Murphy Whittenbur­g, Emma Bowers, Summer Whittenbur­g, and Alex Ogles; sister-in-law, Audrey Brooks, brothers-in-law Harold and his wife Jean Murphy, Gail and his wife Edna Murphy; 5 nieces, Janet Schwalbe, and her husband, Robert, Linda Lindsey, Charlotte Russell, Kathy Klingman, and her husband, Jerry, and Carol Cox; nephews, Howard Brooks, and his wife, Sheryl, and Larry Brooks; great nieces, Tara Jones, and her husband, Heath, and their daughters, Jillian, Kenzie and Whitney Millsap; a great nephew, Eric Schwalbe, and his wife, Magon, and their sons, Kyler, Will and Wyatt.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at 12 noon in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Don Reed will officiate. Private interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel on Tuesday from 11am until time for the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to Gwinnett Hospital Foundation, 1755 N. Brown Street, Lawrencevi­lle, GA 30043, to be designated for Gwinnett Extended Care Center activities or Gwinnett Cancer Care.
