Harbin sponsoring full slate of spring fun

Whether you want to get on a bike, run a race or have fun at a health walk, Harbin Clinic wants you and your family to get out and get active in 2017. Harbin Clinic is offering three family friendly fitness events to help everyone get out, have fun and get moving.

Whether it’s dressing up in green and glowing in a night run, jumping on a bike for a family friendly jaunt on local trails or dressing up as a super hero and amazing all your friends with not only your costume but your super speed, Harbin Clinic offers plenty of fitness opportunities.

This year’s edition of the Harbin Clinic Leprechaun-athon changes things up a bit.

The race moves to a Friday evening start and offers a flat course featuring lots of glowing lights, bubbles and a finish line full of foam located on the Town Green.

The fun-filled event takes place on March 17 and features both a 5K race and a two-mile health walk along with a costume contest for the best dressed and most festive walkers and runners.

Harbin Clinic has teamed with TRED to sponsor the Harbin Clinic Family Trail Ride on April 29 during the Up The Creek cycling event. Up The Creek still features bike rides ranging from 32 to 109 miles, but the family trail ride is a bit shorter so families can start and end on the Town Green and ride on the Ridge Ferry Park Trails. The ride also features a bike clinic and a special bike scavenger hunt for the kids. In October, the Harbin Hero Hustle returns for its second incarnation as costumed super heroes will return to take to the streets of downtown Rome to conquer the fast, flat course in Downtown Rome for the 5K and twomile health walk. The event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 14, and will once again feature costume contests for the best-dressed heroes and villains.

The Harbin Hero Challenge will also return for its second year, as locals will have the chance to nominate their favorite local, nonprofit charities for a chance to be one of the five Harbin Hero Charities and an opportunity to win a $1,000 donation.

Last year the Rome YMCA took home the top prize while Summit Quest, Harbor House, Hospitality House for Women and DIGS Inc. all earned $500 donations as finalists.

“We love partnering with the Rome Floyd Parks and Rec and TRED to help bring these great events to the community,” Harbin Clinic CEO Kenna Stock says. “I look forward to seeing everybody participate in these events and have a fun time while getting some exercise.”

Harbin ophthalmologist Dr. David Herren (bib 802), Keith Long (bib 833) and Jill Braley (bib 984) lead the pack at the start of the Harbin Hero Hustle in October 2016. Herren won the race, Long placed second overall, and Braley was the first female finisher.
