Rome BOE hears ELOST report
Calendars for the 2017-2018 and 20182019 school years were unanimously approved by board members.
Rome City Schools’ ELOST 4 collections dropped a bit for last month, according to a report from the system superintendent, but this drop was expected.
During the board of education’s meeting Tuesday, the members heard the monthly report of ELOST 4 collections.
In February, the system collected $388,769, which is $45,231 less than the estimated $434,000.
Since the beginning of the education local option sales tax 4 in April 2014, the system has collected $14,463,569, which is $292,431 less than the estimated $14,756,000.
“We anticipate a drop in the collections after the Christmas season ends,” explained Lou Byars, superintendent.
The board also unanimously approved two year’s worth of school calendars.
For the 2017-2018 year, key dates are: the first day will be July 28; fall break will be Oct. 2 through 6; Thanksgiving break will be Nov. 20 through 24; winter break will be Dec. 19 through Jan. 1; spring break will be March 26 through 30; and the last day of school will be May 18.
For the 2018-2019 year, key dates are: the first day will be Aug. 3; fall break will be Oct. 1 through 5; Thanksgiving break will be Nov. 19
through 23; winter break will be Dec. 24 through Jan. 4; spring break will be March 25 through 29; and the last day of school will be May 24.
“Our feedback has been positive when it comes to completing two years’ worth at a time,” explained Byars. “Parents and teachers like to be able to plan ahead. We plan to continue to plan two years out at a time.”
The approved calendars will be posted on the system website.
Byars also reminded those at the meeting that the system will be on spring break from March 27 through 31. March 24 is a teacher in-service day, during which teachers report, but students will not.
