Lutheran Services of Georgia’s Heritage Adoption Program partners with DFCS to find Forever Families for children waiting in Georgia’s foster care system. Mercy Care will offer a free Work Preparedness Class from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Mercy Care, 300 Chatillon Road. Work Preparedness teaches job seekers how to identify and market their skills, match their skills to jobs that are available, how and where to network with employers, develop and polish a resume and more. The class is designed for those 40-54 years old but is available to a limited number outside those ages. Must register to attend. The Exchange Club of Rome will meet Friday at noon at the Palladium on the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds, 69 Church Street. The program will be the Youth Speech Contest.
The Big Fibbers Storytelling Festival will be held Friday through Sunday in Trinity United Methodist Church’s Martha King Building, 606 Turner McCall Blvd. Friday night at 7 p.m. will be the Big Fibbers contest, with 16 storytellers vying for the title of Biggest Fibber. Admission is $10. Saturday at 2 p.m. is the Debby Brown Young Tales competition featuring students from area schools; admission is free. At 5 p.m. is “Nothing But The Truth,” a program of true and personal stories featuring tellers from Rome, Atlanta and beyond. Admission is $10. At 8 p.m. is a showcase featuring nationally known tellers Carol Cain and Natalie Jones. On Sunday at 2 p.m. is the final program with a variety of tellers; admission is free. The Rome-Floyd Recycling Center will host an electronics collection event at the Recycling Center on Watters Street in North Rome on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. Items collected include televisions, computers, DVRs, etc. They offer these events to try to keep heavy metals out of the landfill. Appointments are required to help with traffic. To schedule an appointment or for more information call the center at 706-291-5266.

Landlord Association will meet March 21. Howard Gibson of the building inspection office will be the guest speaker. He will be talking about property maintenance codes and procedures. Gibson will also discuss local and state concerns facing landlords in the upcoming year that will impact deposits and how to obtain information on future tenants.

The Sara Hightower Regional Library’s 2017 Adult Reading Program will run until April 15. Weekly gift bags will be handed out. There will be two grand prize drawings for Amazon Kindle Fire tablets on March 27 and April 17. This is the first year using the READ-squared program. Patrons will create an account and track their reading online. The more patrons read, the more they will be entered into the drawing and accumulate points for e-coupons from local merchants. There is a free tax service being offered by the AARP at two locations in Rome. The Rome-Floyd County Library, 205 Riverside Parkway, is offering the service Mondays through April 17 from 1-4 p.m. and Saturdays through April 15 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Charles C. Parker Center, 1325 Kingston Road, will offer tax assistance Wednesdays through April 12 from 1-4 p.m. Those participating should bring a copy of last year’s return and all papers related to income for 2016.
