Clark leads Indians in 6-0 win over Coosa

Armuchee baseball rode behind strong pitching to take a 6-0 win at Coosa Tuesday afternoon as Hunter Clark struck out seven in six innings for the Region 7-AA win.

The senior allowed just two hits and then went 3 for 4 at the plate with three stolen bases.

The Indians (4-5, 4-0 7-AA) got two hits from Jacob Stanley, Gage Burkett, Brett Barker and Ethan Nixon, with Stanley recording three RBIs and Gage Burkett getting two RBIs and a double. Seth Crowe pitched four innings for Coosa (6-10, 2-3) and struck out seven.

Coosa travels to Alabama today to face Cherokee County while Armuchee hosts Pepperell on Friday.

In other action:

The Coosa boys’ soccer team continued its hot start to Region 7-AA play with a 5-0 win against Model on Tuesday in Coosa.

The Eagles scored four goals in the first half, beginning with Chandler Hubbard and Nohel Paz scoring in the 12th and 14th minutes. Hubbard’s goal came off of a corner kick by Aaron Camacho. Jorge Lopez scored only seven minutes later, and Junior Guzman scored two minutes after that.

Model only allowed one goal in the second half, a score from Guzman in the 74th minute. Coosa’s Jose Reyes had two assists.

Coosa (8-1, 6-0 7-AA) plays at Dade County on Thursday while Model (6-4, 4-3) hosts Rockmart.

Rome boys 2, Darlington 0

The Rome boys broke open a scoreless second half Tuesday and captured a 2-0 non-region win over Darlington.

The Wolves scored both of their goals in the second half, with Sergio Vazquez scoring on a penalty kick and Eduardo Zavala connecting with an assist from Rahdriq Turner.

Rome goalkeeper Grant Chambers had three saves, while Mutsa Nyamuranga, Cooper Williams, Brendon Juarez, and Dio Perez all contribute­d to the Wolves’ shutout as well.

Darlington (3-6-1) plays at Bowden on Thursday while Rome (7-4) goes to Hiram on Friday.

Rome girls 6, Darlington 0

The Rome girls’ soccer team cruised to a 6-0 win over Darlington on Tuesday.

Rebekah Hufstetler once again led the Lady Wolves with four goals while Gigi Gonsalves scored twice and keeper Kat Tracy had three saves to earn the shutout in goal.

Darlington, despite allowing the six goals, got 14 saves from freshman goalkeeper Kasey Barnett.

The Lady Tigers (1-8) travel to play Bowden on Thursday while Rome (66) goes on the road to play Hiram on Friday.

Harvester Christian girls 1, Unity Christian 0

The Unity Christian girls fell 1-0 on penalty kicks in a region game against Harvester Christian on Tuesday at Grizzard Park.

The game was scoreless through regulation and overtime, leading to penalty kicks. The Lady Lions had defeated Harvester Christian 7-0 on Saturday and won their previous two games by a combined 17-0.

Unity (2-1, 2-1) plays again Friday as it hosts Cherokee Christian.

TENNIS: Coosa edges Pepperell

The Coosa tennis teams eked out a pair of wins Tuesday as both the boys and girls teams earned 3-2 wins over Region 7-AA foe Pepperell at the Rome Tennis Center.

The Lady Eagles (8-1) got wins from No. 1 singles Tori Overby (6-3, 7-6) and the No. 2 doubles team of Alexis Holmes and Sadie Hagan (6-4, 6-1), while Pepperell countered with wins from No. 2 singles Carrington Nails (1-6, 6-4, 7-5) and its No. 1 doubles team of Regan Ware and Allie Williams (7-5, 6-0).

It came down to the final singles match, with Coosa’s Victoria Thomaston winning a marathon match, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5.

The Coosa boys (7-2) got a win at No. 1 singles from Sam Corbin (6-2, 6-2), but Pepperell won at No. 2 and No. 3 thanks to Jordan Purser (6-2, 6-3) and Zane Camp (6-1, 6-1).

The Eagles came back in the doubles matches, with the No. 1 team of Bryce Ray and Jay Tumlin holding on to win 2-6, 7-6, 6-4, and Jordan Broome and Jayden Cave winning 7-6, 6-4.

Both Coosa teams play again this Thursday against Model at the Rome

Tennis Center while Pepperell travels to Rockmart.

GOLF: Model boys win match

The Model boys’ golf team emerged victorious during a three-team match at BEAA on Tuesday with a score of 155. Pepperell finished second with 181, and Coosa finished with a score of 209.

Model’s Cody Bozeman was the individual leader with a nine-hole score of 36, while Cooper Greer and Grant Elliot scored a 39. Jonathan Bryant finished the scores with a 41.

The Pepperell boys were lead by Connor Chandler who scored a 42. Hunter Chastain produced a 45, Cody Ballard recorded a 46 and both Ben Robinson and Chris Hovers scored a 48.

For Coosa, Dawson Tate led the team with a score of 43, while Caleb Ray got a score of 50. Griffin Goss scored a 52, and Lathe Spivey scoring a 64.

The Pepperell girls scored a 98, with Grace Hufford carding a 48 and Josie McGraw a 50. Coosa’s Abigail Talley finished with a 58.

Coosa plays Cedartown at Meadow Lakes today while Pepperell competes again Thursday hosting Armuchee at BEAA.

Darlington boys take second

The Darlington golf team finished second in a match against Mt. Paran and Walton on Tuesday at Marietta Country Club with a score of 155.

The Tigers’ Peter Hinnant scored a 35, tied for the third best on the day. Lindsey Cordell scored a 37, Alec Patterson got a 41 and Carter Anderson scored a 42.

Darlington is back on the links Monday when it plays in the Trojan Invitation­al in Carrollton.
