Work planned for parkway intersection

Here’s a look at what’s happening in other parts of Northwest Georgia:

ROCKMART — A change is coming to a much used but also somewhat dangerous intersection on Nathan Dean Parkway as the Georgia Department of Transportation is planning to cut off turn access to prevent wrecks.

Rockmart City Manager Jeff Ellis presented a plan to City Council members that was forwarded along from the state DOT offices.

Drivers will be able to cross over from the north to southbound sides of Nathan Dean Parkway where traffic is able to turn left from either the Century Bank or Sonic parking lots on northbound side of the highway, or the Ingles parking lot on the southbound side. The middle access will be blocked off, but drivers will still be able to turn right onto Nathan Dean Parkway from both sides, heading east or west.

The DOT is paying for the changes, Ellis said.

Rockmart Police Chief Keith Sorrell said it will cut down on the number of vehicle collisions which happen in the area.
