Rossville OKs Sunday booze sales
ROSSVILLE — Rossville voters on Tuesday approved liquor-by-the-drink sales and Sunday beer and wine sales.
Voters approved two referendums: the sale of liquor for drinking with a meal at a restaurant, and allowing businesses to sell malt beverages and wine on Sundays between 12:30-11:30 p.m. The referendums passed 87-45 and 8349, respectively.
Paulina Martinez, owner of La Familia Mexican Restaurant in the heart of Rossville, is the only restaurant establishment that sells beer and wine.
A lot of Martinez’s customers who visit the establishment want liquor drinks with their meals, she said. Often those customers will leave and cross state lines into nearby Tennessee or go into nearby Fort Oglethorpe where they can be served.
She sees the sale of liquor as a means for other restaurants to move into town and she welcomes the competition as it’s good for the community as a whole.
