Arsenal squads press on despite rainouts

The Rome YMCA’s Arsenal Select teams continued their regular season over the past two weekends despite rainouts. They have posted a 7-5-1 record to bring their season record to 15-10-4.

The G14-D team grabbed a win and a tie two weekends ago, defeating the Covington YMCA 5-1 on Saturday and playing TopHat to a scoreless draw on Sunday.

In the game at Covington, Arsenal got goals from Joey Kunczewski and Ashley Medrano in the first half, followed by scores from Perry Durden, Ashley Marin and Malone Christen in the second half.

Deyvis Reader recorded two saves in goal.

Arsenal took several shots but couldn’t find the back of the net against TopHat, but the defense played solid with Reader earning the clean sheet in goal.

This past weekend, the Arsenal team split their games, losing to Concorde Fire 3-0 on Saturday before traveling to Snellville on Sunday and topping Liberty SC 3-0.

Christen scored all three of Arsenal’s goals in the second half, while Ashley Medrano recorded the clean sheet in goal assisted by the defensive back line of Durden, Payton Brown, Abigail Cooper and Lizzie Ely.

The team will return to action on the road on April 8 against SSA Chelsea Yellow.

In the boys’ division, Arsenal’s B13-V West team moved into a tie for second two weekends ago after defeating Chiefs FC Blue in Roswell 2-1. For the complete YMCA Arsenal youth soccer report, visit RN-T.com.

Down 1-0 at the half, Arsenal’s Maddox Pyle scored twice with Steven Villatoro assisting on the second goal. Goalkeeper Jacob Fisher had eight saves. They travel to Warner Robins on Saturday.

The B13-III West team lost 2-0to SSA Chelsea Blue on March 11, and fell to SAF 3-0 this past Saturday. They are now in ninth place and host first place CFA Dalton on Saturday.

The B14 V-W team lost to Buckhead Blue 2-0 two weekends ago and bounced back this past weekend, beating Carrollton’s Georgia Storm Outlaws 1-0 on Saturday with a goal from Brinson Sumner. Arsenal then posted a 4-0 victory over Atlanta’s Club Toluca on Sunday. Goals came from Will Burns, Josue Lopez, and Sumner, who posted two.

They are now tied for third in their six-team division and host North Georgia United on Sunday.

The B14 II team beat the Roswell Santos 2-0 on March 11 and tied the Dekalb YMCA Wolves 1-1 March 12. The team then beat Augusta Arsenal 4-0 on Sunday. They are now in third in their division and host Georgia Rush and Athens United this weekend.

The Arsenal Academy teams posted a 5-6 record over the past two weekends. Their season record 8-15. They travel to Canton and Kennesaw this weekend.
