Baker throws one-hitter as Dragons win on the road

Pepperell wins a 10-0 in five innnings against Gordon Central.

Brett Baker stepped up on the mound for the Pepperell Dragons and delivered a one-hitter Thursday in a 10-0 win over Gordon Central in Calhoun.

Baker struck out nine in the five-inning game shortened by the run-rule. The Dragons opened with four runs in the first and added on from there in the Region 7-AA contest.

Parker Covington finished with three hits and two RBIs for Pepperell, while Preston Frazier and Jose Arias brought in two runs each as well. Mason Fincher and Wesley Wade had two hits apiece.

Pepperell (5-10, 5-1 7-AA) will host Armuchee today at 5 p.m. in Lindale.

SOCCER: Coosa boys 5, Dade County 1

The Coosa Eagles made the trip to Dade County on Thursday and came back with a 5-1 victory over the Region 7-AA opponent.

Nohel Paz and Jorge Lopez each had two goals in the match, with Lopez heading in a corner kick from Aaron Camacho in the 14th minute to open the scoring. Camacho then scored on a corner kick as the ball swerved from the corner and past the keeper.

Darlington girls 8, Bowdon 0

The Darlington Lady Tigers picked up their second win in subregion play Thursday as they shut out host Bowdon 8-0 on the road.

Alex Gardner had three goals and an assist in the Region 6A-A match, Anna Katherine Cates had three goals, and Lilley Washburn had two goals and an assist. Farrin Mumpower added an assist and keeper Kasey Barnett had three saves in goal. Darlington (2-7, 2-0 6A-A) will be at home Monday to play Cartersvil­le.

Model girls 4, Rockmart 2

The Model girls’ defense took a stand while the offense spread the attack against Rockmart on Thursday as the Lady Devils took the Region 7-AA match 4-2 at home.

Kyla Reynolds scored two goals for Model, while Jennifer Espinoza and Anna Ruth Parker had a goal each. Melanie Morrison recorded 10 saves in goal.

Model (8-2, 7-1 7-AA) will travel to Summervill­e today to take on Chattooga at 5 p.m.
