Records fall as Rome attacks

The Rome High track teams find success Saturday in the Carrollton Invitation­al.

The Rome High track and field teams held off their spring break one day and made some improvemen­ts at the Carrollton Invitation­al on Saturday, breaking some school records in the process.

Rome’s Tacoria Williams set the new school record in the girls’ triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 11 inches, to come in second overall.

The Wolves’ 4x400 meter relay team of Shidell Millsap, Shomari Bonham, Jayden Brewer and Montrell Millsap broke the school record in the boys’ 4x400 with a time of 3 minutes, 29.10 seconds. They finished fourth. Shidell Millsap tied another record after he posted a time of 10.9 seconds for third overall in the boys’ 100-meter dash.

He also took fourth in the 200 with a time of 22.40

Montrell Millsap racked up points in the hurdle events, winning the boys’

110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.42 and coming in at 40.93 for third in the 300 hurdles.

Rome’s girls’ “A” 4x100 relay team of Williams, Jataria Jackson, Karley Baker and Zaysha Brown came in second with a time of 49.56.

Rome’s boys’ “A” 4x100 team of Cheneniah McKeever, Montrell Millsap, Adam Anderson and Shidell Millsap finished third with a time of 43.78. The top four teams finished within 0.82 seconds of each other.

Jackson took third in the girls’ 200, finishing in 25.97, while Sarah Glick came in fifth in the girls’ 1,600, posting a time of 5:47.97.

Rome’s boys came in fourth in the team standings with 43.50 points, while the girls’ finished tied for seventh with fellow Region 7-5A squad Carrollton with 37 points.

Rome will host Armuchee and Coosa in a track meet April 4 at Barron Stadium.
