Officers plan to check bank security footage after the victim reported the thefts while he was in a restaurant.

Rome police are investigating the Sunday afternoon theft of a gun and money from a vehicle while the owner was eating at a restaurant on Turner McCall Boulevard.

According to police reports:

The victim called shortly after 2 p.m. to report the thefts from his 2003 Ford Expedition, which was parked in the lot of Outback Steakhouse, 1404 Turner McCall Blvd.

Missing were a bank bag with company deposits of approximately $1,000 cash and a personal check book; a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .38 in a carry bag with two extra magazines, valued at $450; a company-issued Samsung Note 3 Galaxy phone

worth $300; a $20 tote bag; a $20 wallet containing the victim’s driver’s license, credit cards, $200 in cash and approximately $400 in gift cards; two pairs of sunglasses with a total value of $300; a $30 Smith & Wesson pocket knife; and a Bible and devotional book valued at $60.

The victim said he locked the door before going into the restaurant but police found no damage to the vehicle.

However, a witness described a pickup truck parked next to the Expedition that appeared suspicious. Investigators plan to check security footage at the nearby Regions Bank, where the truck had been in line at the drive-through.
