Paperback book sale to offer wide selection and low prices

In addition to their used book sale, the Friends of the Library are adding a spring paperback sale at the end of April, trying to clear storage space and get more books in more hands.

If you want some springtime reading or perhaps are stocking up on beach reads for summer vacation, the Friends of the Library Paperback Book Sale may be just the ticket.

The group decided to hold their first paperback sale because they were experiencing an overflow, according to Friends member Ruth Forrester.

“We are so fortunate to have this problem,” she laughed. “But they are coming out of our ears at this point and we thought it would be good to get the books in the hands of readers if possible.”

The sale will be April 26 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and then April 29 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Regular mass market paperbacks will cost 25 cents each or five for $1. Trade or oversized paperbacks will cost 50 cents each or three for $1.

The sale will be set up in the Oostanaula Room at the Rome-Floyd County Library, 205 Riverside Parkway. The books are mostly fiction, including a selection of romances and mysteries. The sale will have hundreds of titles, Forrester added.

Even though they are trying to clear out space, the Friends are still welcoming any donations Romans want to make, Forrester said.

“We love getting them,” she said. “And we always want to make sure we try to find a new home for them, not recycle them.”

The Friends will still hold the traditional Used Book Sale in September, Forrester added.

“We used to hold two sales per year, a long time ago, but cut back to make one large one in the fall,” she explained. “We simply have a large amount of paperbacks right now and they won’t fit into our bookstore at the library. This paperback sale may be something we continue doing if we have enough books to do it.”

All proceeds from the sale go to help the library in not only purchasing new items for the collection but also funding things like the Summer Reading Program.
