The GSU grad-to-be is looking for a career in the travel industry.

Uriel Rangel, a senior at Georgia State University from Cedartown, has been chosen to fill one of three exclusive summer internships with BCD Travel. Only three students were chosen from more than 260 applicants for the corporate travel company’s Management Associate Program.

BCD Travel is a worldwide company with a U.S. base of operation in Atlanta.

“I feel like this is the opportunity of a lifetime for me, Rangel said. The graduating senior at Georgia State University said he has always wanted to see the world. “The fact that I get to do just that while at the same time prepping myself for a career in the future is something I never imagined being able to do.”

Rangel is majoring in management sciences with a minor in hospitality administration at GSU and will graduate this spring.

I’m really excited about the chance to jump into the world of corporate travel and see how it works from the inside,” Rangel said.

Chicka Elloy, director of global talent management for BCD Travel, said that Rangel will travel to Brazil, China Hong Kong, India, Holland and Sweden over the course of the six-week internship. “It’s not just to experience the cultures but it’s to help them understand how our industry works with the different cultures,” Elloy said.

The original MAP program was developed five years ago to train the next generation of leaders in the travel industry. The company decided it needed young savvy kinds coming out of college with more of business acumen.

Elloy said the program has been incredibly successful and out of the 18 interns that have already been through the program, all but two have stayed with the company. “We heavily invest in these students. You’re looking at over $50,000 per head that we pour into these students,” Elloy said.

Once the internship is completed, Rangel and the other interns would go through a six-month training programs before joining BCD Travel on a full-time basis.
