SOFTBALL: Unity Christian 2, New Creation 1

In a decisive Game 3, Lindsay Hoyt hit an RBI double in the first inning against New Creation Christian on Thursday and Unity Christian held on to win the game and the quarterfinal series of the GICAA Division II state playoffs.

Pitcher Keri Glass struck out seven in the complete-game effort, while Lady Lion Maddie Dorough saved the possible game-tying run after making a throw from left field to home to keep the runner at third.

Unity Christian split their series-opening doubleheader with New Creation on Monday, winning the opening game 14-2 before coming up just short in the second game, 4-3. Glass pitched both of those games as well, striking out four in Game 1 and 11 in Game 2.

The Lady Lions will host Holy Ground Baptist in the Final Four series, starting with a doubleheader on Monday at Grizzard Park.
