Symphony to host Young Artists Competition concert Saturday at City Auditorium
The event brings supporters and patrons out to enjoy music and art projects.
The Rome Symphony Orchestra will present its seventh annual Young Artists Competition concert on Saturday at the Rome City Auditorium. In a tradition of celebrating the talents of area youth, the symphony will introduce three young vocalists representing three area colleges. The competition was designed to give young people in the region the opportunity to perform with a professional orchestra. Auditions were held earlier in the year and three winners were selected by a panel of judges chaired by Sam Baltzer, who will be conducting Saturday’s concert. The winners of this year’s competition are Ryan Kingsley, who studies music performance at Georgia Highlands College, and Mary Saintfort, a junior at Shorter University. Also performing is Rachel Mayo, a music education major at Berry College.
Aside from the three classical soloists, the evening will include a variety of orchestral pieces by Beethoven, Mozart, and Prokofiev. The symphony will be joined by members of the Rome Youth Symphony Orchestra to perform a selection from the film score of “Alice in Wonderland.”
The concert will take place Saturday at the Rome City Auditorium starting at 7:30 p.m.
Advance tickets $20 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students and are available at Kroger, Living and Giving, Rome Visitor Center, and Merry Bee. They will also be available at the door. At-door prices are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students.
