The 27th annual Up the Creek Trail and Century Ride will be held Saturday. Early registration will be held Friday from 2-6 p.m. at Cycle Therapy, 27 Central Plaza. Ride-day registration will be held at 6:30 a.m. at the Forum River Center, 301 Tribune St. Rides of 32, 53, 71, 81, 104 and 109 miles will depart at 8 a.m. The Harbin Clinic family trail ride of 5 miles will depart at 9 a.m. For more information visit www. itsyourrace.com.
The Cherokee Masonic Lodge 66, 2934 Alabama Highway, will host its annual barbeque on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out. Cost is $8 per plate.

The New Horizons Band will have an organizational meeting on May 4 at 6:30 p.m. in Franklin Hall at Shorter University. This group is comprised of members 50 years old or older who either played a band instrument in school and haven’t played in many years or would like to learn to play an instrument and play in a group setting. The Floyd County Master Gardeners will offer a free community “Gardening in Containers” workshop May 6 at 11 a.m. at Chieftains Museum on Riverside Parkway. The program will be presented by Floyd County Extension Agent Keith Mickler and the Floyd County Master Gardeners. The AIDS Resource Council’s fourth annual Derby Bash fundraiser will be held May 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at 507 E. Third St. They will serve traditional Kentucky Derby fare and libations. There will be a best hat contest, use your imagination and win a $50 gift certificate from one of Rome’s nicer restaurants for the best hat winner. A silent auction will include items donated by local merchants. Participants will also watch the Kentucky Derby. A donation of $25 per person is suggested. The third annual A Night to Remember: An Adult Prom benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association will take place May 13 at 8 p.m. at the Forrest Place Ballroom on Broad Street. The event with a masquerade theme will help fund local programs, services, advocacy and research by the Alzheimer’s Association.
