Dragons earn 10-0 shutout to open state playoffs
Pepperell used its home field advantage to its favor as the Dragons scored a pair of goals in each half to beat Callaway 4-0 in the first round of the state playoffs Wednesday in Lindale.
The Dragons applied pressure onto Callaway from the onset, outshooting their opponents 23-11. Ramiro Alanis had two goals, Lane Koch and Tony Sucuqui each had one goal and Rigo Mandujano recorded 11 saves.
Koch led the scoring in the 22nd minute with a header goal off a corner kick from Moises Ramirez, while Alanis ten minutes later off a cross from Ivan Sandoval. Sucuqui made it 3-0 with a goal from 20 yards out, and Alanis finished with a breakaway goal in the last five minutes.
Pepperell (12-5-1) plays again next week, when it will either host Dodge County or travel to play Fitzgerald in the second round.
