Bruce Morgan Odom

Bruce Morgan “Pop” Odom, 64, of Silver Creek, Georgia, died Monday April 24, 2017 after a brief illness at a local hospital.

He was born in Floyd County, Georgia on August 28, 1952. He is the son of Imogene Couey Odom and the late Ralph Morgan Odom. He graduated from Cave Spring High School in 1970. Bruce married his soulmate, Rita Wallace Odom, on June 6, 1981.

He lived many years in Englewood, Florida where he retired as Plant Manager of King Plastic, Inc. in Venice, Florida in 2004. He was a United States Marine, serving from 1971 till 1973, was an avid fisherman, loved NASCAR, the lake, his church and his FNA group. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lindale where he was a Sunday School teacher and a Vacation Bible School volunteer.

He leaves behind his wife, Rita, Silver Creek; his sons, Clark Morgan Odom and Ashley Moreland, of San Francisco, California, and Cliff Clayton and his wife, Tammy, of Griffin, Georgia; his daughter, Carrie Clayton Kelly and husband, Matthew, of McDonough, Georgia, and his mother, Imogene Couey Odom, Huntsville, Alabama. He also leaves a sister, Lynn Crumbly and her husband, Christophe­r, of Huntsville Alabama, sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Kenny Howell, of McDonough, Georgia, sisterin-law, Karen Johnson, of Lindale, Georgia, and his mother-in-law, Vickie Wallace Vinson, of Lindale, Georgia. He is also survived by nephews, Preston and Clayton Crumbly, and his grandchild­ren whom he adored, Colby, Carson, and Tanner Clayton, Taylor Ann Gordy, Brayden Ingle, Phoebe and Sarah Grace Swilley, Caleb, Cassadie, Carina, and Brooklyn Kelly. In addition to the loving family are his deeply loved and yet rightfully spoiled doodles, Forrest, Bowden, and Bennie. “Pop” was loved unconditio­nally by many more extended family members and friends.

A Celebratio­n of a “Wonderful Life” will be held today, Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lindale with the Rev. Tim Burnham officiatin­g and with family and friends sharing. Following the celebratio­n, Bruce will be cremated in accordance with his wishes. Inurnment services will be held at a later date in Georgia National Cemetery.
