Human cannonball to be launched across field at Rome Braves game

-

Rome Braves audiences will get more excitement than they bargained for at Saturday’s game.

David “The Bullet” Smith Jr., the human cannonball, will be shot out of a large cannon across the field after the game.

Smith has been a human cannonball for more than 11 years and has performed more than 5,000 cannon shots around the world, performing at various events and locations.

He holds the record for the longest human cannonball flight at just over 193 feet.

During his performances, Smith is shot from a massive, specially designed cannon that launches him hundreds of feet to land on a horizontal net.

The cannon doesn’t work like a traditional cannon which uses gunpowder. Human cannonballs are launched either by a spring or a jet of compressed air which catapults the person through the air.

After Saturday’s game against the West Virginia Power, the cannon will be set up in center field and Smith will be shot toward a net in the home plate area.

The game begins at 6 p.m. at State Mutual Stadium.
