Police are seeking two men charged with shooting a Summerville man in the leg at the Big H convenience store, and a man who held the clerk at the Maple Quick Stop at gunpoint in an armed robbery, both taking place Thursday night.

In the Big H convenience store incident, according to Lt. Joe Costolnick of the Rome Police Department, police have taken warrants out for 32-year-old Christopher Kenyun Atwater and 29-year-old Monyea Mico Smith.

Atwater is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Atwater is described as a black male, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 160 lbs.

Smith is charged with aggravated assault. Smith is described as a black male, 5 feet 5 inches tall and 145 lbs.

Costolnick said they have information that both men have fled Floyd County and are possibly in the metro Atlanta area.

Police gave no indication as to why the man was targeted around 6:15 p.m. at the Big H convenience store at 127 E. 12th St.

The man was taken from the scene in a Floyd Medical Center ambulance around 6:30 p.m. Police said the victim is alive, but a Floyd Medical Center representative said they did not have the man listed in their directory Friday afternoon. The store was closed down for at least an hour and a half while police investigated.

Police are also investigating an armed robbery at a convenience store which took place near midnight.

According to Rome police reports:

A clerk at the Maple Quick Stop at 1912 Maple Ave. reported a man robbed the store, taking around $700. The clerk said the man was a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans with a black bandanna over his face. However, he said he recognized the man as a regular in the store.

The man pointed a gun at the clerk, pushed him down and kicked him. The robber took the money and fled south on Maple. There is a video of the robbery and police recovered fingerprints and a shoeprint.
