Garden clubs spread the praise Tuesday
Clubs and individuals are honored for their beautification efforts.
Rome Federated Garden Club members celebrated all that is beautiful in Rome Tuesday, along with those who put in the countless hours to make it beautiful. The annual Day in May Awards program was held at the Rome-Floyd County Library
Heritage First Bank President Ryan Earnest and Senior Vice President Kay Chumbler started the event off by presenting a check for $500 to the organization. Leadership immediately started to dole out the funds to member clubs in recognition of their hard work to beautify parks and garden spots throughout the community.
Townview Garden Club received first place in the Parks category, followed by Thistle Garden Club and the Three Rivers Garden Club.
In the Garden Spots category, Camellia Garden Club won first place, followed by Mountain View Garden Club and Lavender View Garden Club.
First place winners received $100, second place netted $75 and third place received $50.
Nancy Davis received the Federation’s Live Oak Award for her lifetime of service through the Thistle Garden Club. She has been a member of for 42 years.
Art D’Ambrosio, DiDi Vreatt, Judy Howerton, Misty Rigas, Peggy Carmon, Mary Frances Wright, Joy Puckett, Ruth Brewer and Marla Janes were all awarded lifetime memberships in the Federated Garden Clubs for their efforts to make Rome and Floyd County a more beautiful place to live.
The Federated Garden Clubs installed a new slate of officers that include Winnie Holland, president; Carrie Wilder, first VP; Jane Davis, second VP; Joy Puckett, third VP; Barbara Ivey, fourth VP; Jo Hernandez, recording secretary; Judy Howerton, corresponding secretary; and Stanley Boulee, treasurer.
Holland told the audience at the awards luncheon she was honored to have been chosen to serve as president of the organization. “We must work together and we will work together,” Holland said.
