Arsenal teams have close contests over the weekend

The Rome YMCA’s Arsenal Select teams posted a 4-7 record this past weekend to bring their season record to 26-27-5.

The G14 team beat 2-0 in Griffin. Joey Kunczewski and Ashley Medrano scored the goals for Arsenal, while Hayley Alred and Medrano combined to earn the clean sheet in goal. The G14 team is 6-2-1 this season and in third place.

The G15 B team defeated the Atlanta Chiefs Premier team last Saturday, with Jayden Boswell posting a hat trick to lead the Arsenal squad to a 6-2 win.

After the G15 B team took a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the match, the Atlanta Chiefs tied the game at 2-2 with goals within two minutes. Lauren Akemon put Arsenal back in the lead, 3-2, with 13 minutes to go before halftime and her team controlled the game from there.

Akemon finished with two goals and four assists, while Maggie Eddins scored a goal, and Maggie Hamilton and Boswell each had an assist. Keeper Emma Couch had four saves.

The B13-V West team defeated visiting Athens United Black 4-3 on Saturday after Arsenal came from behind in the second half. Noah Weaver, Peyton Sumner, Maddox Pyle and Evan Sumner all scored goals. Goalkeeper Will Payne had four saves in first half while Kevin Espinoza had five saves in the second half.

On Sunday, the team lost to visiting UFA Milton Black, 3-2. Pyle and Weaver each scored, while Payne had two saves and Espinoza had eight. The team finishes the season in fifth place with a 3-5-1 record.

The B14 V-W team defeated Georgia Storm Outlaws 3-0 on Saturday in Douglasvil­le with goals from Micky Lopez, David Reyes and Jorge Herrera. They then played Atlanta’s Club Toluca and lost 3-2 with both goals from Lopez.
