-

A young Silver Creek woman who was behind the wheel of a Nissan Sentra that smashed through a utility pole and flipped on its side on Ga. 101 on Friday was released from Floyd Medical Center on Saturday, according to hospital spokesman Dan Bevels.

According to Rome police Capt. Chris DeHart:

Angela Martin, 23, of Silver Creek, was southbound on Ga. 101 between the two entrances to Saddle Mountain on Friday evening. A witness, who was driving behind Martin, told DeHart the Nissan drifted off the pavement and apparently overcorrected, sending the car up a steep embankment.

The car brought down the power and other utility lines before it flipped onto its side.

Martin was wearing her seat belt and was able to get out and walk to an ambulance for treatment of bumps and bruises.

Georgia Power’s online outage map showed more than 900 customers were affected by the outage in the area Friday night. Only around 10 customers were without power as of 3:30 p.m. Saturday after Georgia Power crews worked through the night to replace the pole and repair the lines. to Floyd County police investigator Amy Nails. According to Nails: Jamal Pryor, 19, of Gordon County, crashed a Saturn Vue into the ice box at the store after suffering the gunshot wound from a 9 mm to his right leg, and was in surgery at Floyd Medical Center late Friday night. Hospital spokesman Dan Bevels said on Saturday that Pryor wasn’t at FMC.

Another man, Michael Martinez, 17, of Rome, was in the passenger seat of the vehicle, and store cashier Kelsie Ashmore said he got out of the vehicle, grabbed a backpack from the back seat and took off walking up Cave Spring Road after the crash. Pryor’s young daughter was also sleeping in the back seat at the time of the incident, but was later turned over to relatives.

Police were able to find Martinez on Friday night and speak with him.

Nails said Pryor was the one who brought the gun into the car, but she couldn’t confirm who was handling it at the time it went off.
