Satellite CVB office downtown now certified visitor’s center

The Downtown Rome Welcome Center, 300 W. First St., in the rear of the Rome Area History Museum, has been designated an official Regional Visitor Information Center.

Funded by money from the 2013 special purpose, local option sales tax package, the Downtown Welcome Center, is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Janet Cochran, tourism project manager for the Georgia Department of Economic Development, said the designation allows for a greater scope of cross-promotion throughout the state.

Visitors can book Roman Holiday tours at the center as well as Downtown Walking and Flavors of Rome tours at the facility. A selection of Georgia’s Rome souvenirs and Georgia Made products from the Last Stop Gift Shop are offered for sale at the center.

The center currently hosts a weekly Farmer’s Market that runs Tuesday evenings from 4 to 6 p.m. and features homemade goods and products.

Flag 7 Marketing open in Makervillage

Pete McPherson came to Rome from Atlanta to help develop Makervillage, 252 N. Fifth Ave. Today, he owns his own business, Flag 7 Marketing, which is based out of Makervillage.

“Predominantly we do websites, and that includes both design and development,” McPherson said. “We’re a little more oriented to the small business, small projects side. We do blogging, videos, social media management, anything digital media marketing that’s what we do.”

McPherson used to own a similar business in the Atlanta area until he came to Makervillage as vice president of the board of directors in November, 2016. He had to shut that business down due to a no compete clause at Makervillage.

He decided to start it back up about a month and a half ago and acquired the assets of Josh Huggins’ business, Social Productions. “He wanted to focus on his job at WinShape and said ‘I’ll sell you my existing clients’ and I decided to take that deal,” McPherson said.

McPherson said email at hello@flag7.com is his preferred method of contact but is generally available weekdays at 706-766-5438 during regular business hours.
