Rome Shakespeare Festival to return Tuesday

-

The second annual event will hit the Town Green and play nightly until June 4.

The second annual Rome Shakespeare Festival is scheduled to hit the Town Green on May 30 and play nightly until June 4.

Free performances of “Romeo and Juliet” and “Twelfth Night” will be performed under the stars for picnic audiences.

The week-long festival will also present a short family musical “Mystery on the Town Green.” The show is full of hobbits, fairies, leprechauns and princesses that inhabit the Town Green, the Town Green parking garage, and the Oostanaula river. To add to the mystery, there is also a dragon that inhabits The Forum. The mystery will be performed by the Young Shakespeare acting company, (some are also playing roles in “Romeo and Juliet”) and will play each night before the performances of “Romeo and Juliet,” and “Twelfth Night.”

On June 3, Rome Shakespeare Festival will be celebrated as June First Saturday by the Downtown Development Authority. Promotion and marketing for this day is expected to bring Rome and area residents downtown to the Town Green between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. RSF is planning to decorate the Town Green and offer three performances of “Mystery on the Green,” renaissance booth activities, jazz, a “Twelfth Night” performance and a rock concert by The Strange on the Town Green stage.

In addition, RSF is partnering with the Rome Art Coterie, the DDA, Rome Area Council for the Arts and downtown business, hotels, Makervillage and Rome Area History museum in the first annual Rome Shakespeare Arts Festival.

Rome and Floyd County artists are exhibiting 136 pieces of visual and 3-dimensional art throughout downtown Rome. RSF is cross promoting the visual art exhibit with Shakespeare, theatre and music performances on the Town Green.

Tables for the Town Green performances can be purchased online at romeshakespearefestival.com or by phone at 888-464-3130. Front row table seating for 10 costs $18.00/chair. General admission seating cost $15.00/chair. Saturday night general admission seating is $20.00/chair and includes the “Twelfth Night” performance and the concert by The Strange.
