FRIDAY’S GAME RECAP

- How it happened: Who did what for Rome: On the mound: Next Game: Radio: Next Homestand:

Final: Rome 5, Augusta 3

In the top of the ninth, Matt Gonzalez broke a 3-3 tie as he reached base on an error and Rome completed a small comeback to win its sixth straight game. The Braves had tied the game only an inning earlier on a Kevin Josephina sacrifice fly, then loaded the bases in the ninth for Gonzalez through a single and a pair of walks. While both teams scored two runs early, pitching dominated the first half of the game. Augusta was able to break a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth with a Michael Bernal RBI double.

Brett Cumberland was the only player to get two hits, and he also scored the game-tying run in the eighth. Lucas Herbert reached three times with one hit, while Anthony Concepcion hit an RBI double in the second inning and later scored himself.

Ryan Lawlor got the start but did not last one inning, allowing two earned runs, one hit and four walks before being taken out. Reliever Tucker Davidson made up for it, however, allowing no runs and three hits through the next four innings. Thomas Burrows and Adam McCreery combined to allow only one run and five hits in the final four innings.

Rome plays again today against Augusta at 6:05 p.m.
