Mary Joyce Woodfin

Mrs. Mary Joyce Woodfin, of Leesburg, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, in a local hospital.

She was born in Atlanta on April 4, 1936, daughter of the late Jesse Lewis Barday and the late Mary Lou New Barday. She was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Company; First Baptist Church, Dothan, Ala.; People Telephone, Blakely, Ga., Northeast Water, Gadsden, Ala., and National Asphalt Center, Auburn University. She has been employed as the secretary at Centre First Baptist Church for 17 years, where she was also a member. She will be missed by her many church families. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Charlene Woodfin, and by a brother, Buddy Barday.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Charles Woodfin, to whom she was a true helpmate for 62 years; a son, Matthew Woodfin, and his wife, April, Cedar Bluff, Ala.; grandson, Christophe­r Woodfin, Madison, Ala.; granddaugh­ter, Charlene Woodfin, Cedar Bluff, Ala.; brothers, Ray (Melvine) Barday, Marietta, Ga., Tommy (Louise) Barday, Leesburg, Ala.; brothers and sister-in-law, Wendell (Joyce) Woodfin, Alamo, Ga. and Dwight Woodfin, Calhoun, Ga. Joyce leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother and grandmothe­r, sister, sister-in-law, the matriarch of the family loved and respected by all.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017, at 8 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, at 4900 Martha Berry Highway, Rome, Ga., 30165. The Rev. Dr. Eddie Nation will officiate. Interment will follow on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Crestlawn Memorial Park, 2000 Marietta Boulevard, Atlanta 30318.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.

Pallbearer­s serving include: Stephen Barday, Belinda Barday King, Cyndi Barday Buttermore, Kyle Woodfin, Eric Wyatt, and Woody Wyatt.

Floral offerings will be accepted or memorial contributi­ons may be made to Centre First Baptist Church, 300 East Bypass Centre, Ala. 35960.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangemen­ts.
