Rome Symphony Orchestra presents ‘Swing’s The Thing’

- Clocktower Jazz Ensemble Greg Robbins

The Rome Symphony Orchestra will present “Swing’s the Thing!” at Darlington School in the Huffman Center on June 10.

The picnic-style concert will feature the smooth big band sounds of the Clock Tower Jazz Ensemble conducted by Dr. Sam Baltzer.

Additional entertainm­ent will be provided by local guest artists including Berry College crooner Greg Robbins and the Andrew Sister’s -style vocals of G.I. Jive featuring Laura Martin, Wendy Robert, and Terri Snelling.

A dance floor is available for those wishing to cut a rug, jitterbug, or simply dig the jive of the swell rhythms of the band.

“It’s always a pleasure for me to stand in front of the amazing musicians of the fabulous Clock Tower Jazz Ensemble,” says conductor Sam Baltzer, “I hope everyone will come out and join us for this exciting program!”

This event is the last concert for the 2016-2017 RSO concert season. Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnic- style dinners and beverages, lay a blanket on the floor, bring folding chairs, or rent and decorate a table for family and friends. The best decorated table will receive an award.

Advance tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for senior and $5 for students. At-door tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students. Children under 10 get in free. Guests are asked to reserve a table before June 6. Tickets can be purchased at Kroger, Living and Giving on Broad Street, Merry Bee Gallery on Glenn Milner Boulevard, and at the Rome Visitor Center as well as online at www.romesympho­ny.org.
