Work to start Friday on turn lanes near stadium

The project will help keep traffic on Veterans Memorial Highway from backing up at Riverside Parkway.

Work is scheduled to start Friday to extend the turn lanes on Veterans Memorial Highway at Riverside Parkway.

Lengthenin­g the turn lanes — on both sides of the intersecti­on — is aimed at keeping traffic from building up in the turn lanes, according to Georgia Department of Transporta­tion District Engineer DeWayne Comer.

The $109,515 project is funded through GDOT’s Quick Response Program.

“This Quick Response project will help improve the flow of traffic on The Loop, make it safer and help the public get where they need to go in Floyd County,” Comer said.

The inside lane in both

directions will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday.

Northwest Georgia Paving has received a contract from the Georgia DOT for a quick response project to extend the left turn lanes off the bypass onto Riverside Parkway and the Armuchee Connector in front of State Mutual Stadium. The work is slated to be finished by the end of June.

should expect to find single lanes closed during the week from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. until the project is complete. It’s expected to take through the end of June. Lanes won’t be closed on game days at State Mutual Stadium.

Calhoun-based Northwest Georgia Paving, Inc. was awarded the contract. Coomer urged drivers to be alert for the advance warning signs that will be posted and to watch out for crews in the work zone.
