Mr. Paul Morgan Lowe, age 47, of Rome, passed away on May 27, 2017 while working in Uyo, Nigeria.

He was born in Cartersvil­le on May 9, 1970, son of the late Noel Reuben Lowe and the late Snowenna Ann Morgan Lowe. He was a graduate of Cass High School in the class of 1990. He received his EMT certificat­ion training at Chattahooc­hee Tech, his paramedic training at Coosa Valley Tech, his registered nurse training from Georgia Highlands College, his BSN degree from West Georgia University and at the time of his death he was attending Chamberlai­n College for his Master’s Degree. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Laurel Ann Lowe, and by two brothers, Robert Noel Lowe, and Patrick Lowe. Paul was an EMT, paramedic and nurse with over 30 years of experience serving his community and others, including the people of Haiti and in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. Among his numerous awards and commendati­ons, Paul was named 2009 Georgia EMT of the Year. He was known among his peers for his dedication, profession­alism, and selflessne­ss.

Survivors include his wife, the former Chasity Coursey, to whom he was married on June 12, 1994; his children, Laurel Ann Lowe, Kennesaw, Allie Elizabeth Lowe, Emily Annease Lowe, and Morgan Chase Lowe, all of Rome; a sister, Mary Lou Maccarone (Sal); three brothers, Neal Lowe (Debra), George Lowe (Ann), and Reuben Lowe (Theresa), all of Cartersvil­le; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017 in Cartersvil­le at The Church at Liberty Square. The Rev. Bud Owens, Cory Lowe, Allie Lowe, and Chase Lowe will provide the eulogies.

The family will receive friends at the church immediatel­y following the service. A reception will follow in the Church Fellowship Hall with Reuben Lowe speaking. All pallbearer­s are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and include; Active, Billie Van Wie, Walter Ruff, Dr. Eric Nix, Eddie Clark, Fred Holloway, Cedric Livingston, Pete Bowman, and Chandra Gravitt; Honorary pallbearer­s will be Emergency Medical Services personnel.

Mrs. Pamela Spivey Branch, 64, of Rome, Ga., passed on June 5, 2017. Services for Mrs. Branch are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.

Otha Lamar Ray, age 86, of Rome, Ga., died on Monday, June 5, 2017.

He was born in Cherokee County, Ala., the son of J.M. Ray and Leila Johnson Ray of Centre, Ala. He lived most of his life in Floyd County. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. He retired from General Electric, pursued real estate, and then was a court bailiff in Rome. He was a Deacon at West Rome Baptist Church, and was head usher for many years. He was very active in the church and involved in outreach for the church. He was preceded in death by a wife, Jo Ann James Ray, of Rome; a brother, Billy Ray; two sisters, Earlene Harper and Sara Ann Reed, all of Centre, Ala.

He is survived by one brother, Henry Allen Ray, of Centre, Ala.; one son, Jimmy Ray, of Hoboken, Ga.; and one daughter, Jan Callan of Rome, Ga. He had six grandchild­ren, Christy Ferguson, Scott Ray, Keith Callan, Sandy Wilbanks, Dustin Ray, and Katie Sims. He had 11 great grandchild­ren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home with the Reverend Ken Oates and the Reverend Steve Glosson officiatin­g. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home.

Lou Winnie Norton

Mrs. Lou Winnie Norton, 98, of Cave Spring, passed away Tuesday afternoon in a Rome care facility following an extended illness.

Mrs. Norton was born in Floyd County on May 17, 1919, a daughter of the late Arthur Owens and the late Carrie York Owens. Mrs. Norton was married to Julian Norton on December 28, 1940, and was preceded in death by him March 21, 1991.

Mrs. Norton was a homemaker and one of the best moms that could be asked for and was a member of the East Rome Baptist Church.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Terry, Mrs. Ruth Brooks, Mrs. Kate Wilson, and Mrs. Katherine Pledger; by a brother, Charlie Owens; and by her step son, Howard Norton.

Mrs. Norton is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Glenda Wheeler and her husband, Jack, of Cave Spring, and Mrs. Sue Lehman and her husband, Jerry, of Rome; and by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Estelle Norton of Pine Mountain, Georgia. Four grandchild­ren, Brent Wheeler (Russ Franklin), Scott Johnson (Tina), Kim Martin, and Tina Mixon; three step grand-children, Mike Norton, Rick Norton, and Mary Ann Hodnett; and three great-grandchild­ren, Ben Martin (Katie), Josh Johnson, and Anna Johnson also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Norton will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel with Pastor Edmond Dula and the Rev. Ken Hinkley officiatin­g. Mrs. Judy Mackey of Blue Ridge will be the soloist. Private interment will follow in the Cave Spring Cemetery. Pallbearer­s will include Ben Martin, Joshua Johnson, Brent Wheeler, Russ Franklin, Craig Hulsey, and Phil Wheeler.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
