Last Stop Gift Shop to host vintage motorcycle show, book signing Saturday

-

The Last Stop Gift Shop will host a vintage motorcycle show in the parking lot of the Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau on Saturday.

The event will include a special book signing by Rome native Chris Price, author of “Georgia Motorcycle History: The first 60 Years 1899-1959.”

The book, a 270-page hardcover coffee table book, is the culmination of Pine’s research which includes hundreds of archives, articles, family collections, books and interviews. It contains nearly 250 black and white archival photographs. While several key figures in American motorcycling history are featured, the book also explores topics such as the motorcycle’s role as it was used by civilians, military and service departments, professional racers and farmers.

Price will be signing copies of the book (which will be on sale) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Last Stop Gift Shop.

Members of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America, Smoky Mountain Chapter, will ride in and display a variety of antique motorcycles at the event.

The Last Stop Gift Shop is located at 402 Civic Center Drive. This photo from the book shows a custom built advertisement/delivery setup for the Macon Pure Milk Company displayed at their offices in Macon circa 1928. The custom-built sidecar is mounted to an Indian 101 Scout. The photo on the book’s cover (top) shows 19-year-old Hammond Springs posing on his Indian factory team “Daytona” racer on the rooftop of the Indian factory in 1921.
