Rome police Lt. Joe Costolnick believes there’s a lot more information out there that has yet to be shared with police regarding a shooting on Grover Street on Wednesday night that left one man dead and another at an area hospital.

According to the Rome Police Department:

Floyd County 911 alerted police to a shots fired call in the area of Nixon Avenue and Grover Street at about 9:34 p.m. Wednesday. Once on the scene, police found James Edward Parks with a gunshot wound to the head. He was lying in the road on Grover Street.

Just minutes later, officers found another adult male lying in the 100 block of Broad Street, also suffering from at

least one gunshot wound.

Early reports were that an older-model red Dodge Durango pulled up next to the victims on Grover Street, some words were exchanged and seven or eight shots were fired. The Durango sped off.

Both men were taken to Floyd Medical Center, where Parks was pronounced dead. Rome police have not released the name of the wounded man picked up on Broad Street, but Costolnick said he was still being treated at an area hospital Thursday night.

Just before noon on Thursday, Rome police located the driver of a white vehicle that the second man was being taken to the hospital in following the shooting. The vehicle was involved in a minor wreck in the 100 block of Broad Street, which is where the gunshot victim got out of the car and was later found.

Earlier reports indicated the vehicle left the wreck scene, going south toward Ga. 101. However, Costolnick said Thursday night that the driver had not been arrested and was being considered as a “good Samaritan” just attempting to get the injured party treatment.

As part of the search for more information, Costolnick said police are hoping to get their hands on any video of the incident.

Detectives in charge of the investigation are requesting

assistance from the community in providing video that may shed light on what happened. Any business owners or residents in the Broad Street, South Rome and East Second Avenue areas are asked to notify police of any surveillance videos that may have captured a white vehicle traveling along this route from 9:30 to 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Those with video or any information are asked to contact Costolnick at 706238-5122, detective Pete Sailors at 706-238-5118 or call 911. All tips may remain anonymous.
