Mr. Thomas Vincent Culp, age 54, of Rome, passed away at a local hospital Thursday, June 15, 2017.

Jacquelyn Millican McGehee

Jacquelyn Millican McGehee, 86, departed this life on June 17, 2017 with her loving family by her side. She was preceded in death by husband, Jackson Reed McGehee, Sr., and son, Jackson Reed McGehee, Jr. She is survived by daughter, Lynne McGehee Cabe (Doug); daughter-inlaw, Ann Dickinson (Blair); and grandchild­ren, Jackson Reed McGehee III (Teela), Hannah Cabe Jones (Stephen), Anna Tate McGehee Lupo, and Haley Cabe. Five great grandchild­ren survive: Sydnee and Cabe Jones, Reed and Libby McGehee, and Mary Alice Lupo.

Jackie was a long-time, devoted member of Rome First United Methodist Church.

Jackie was a first and second grade teacher at Alto Park and McHenry Schools. Her legacy includes touching the lives of many children and families with her empathic love and persistent belief in the intelligen­ce, skills, and unique abilities of children.

Jackie was a friend to forests, streams, wildflower­s, rain, rocks, and hummingbir­ds. She took solace with nature. Jackie hiked many miles on local and regional trails and supported the preservati­on of nature.

A celebratio­n of Jackie’s life will be held Saturday, June 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Rome First United Methodist Church in the sanctuary. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. A private interment will follow the celebratio­n service at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make contributi­ons in Jackie’s memory to the Chieftains Museum, P.O. Box 373, Rome, Ga. 30162.

Samuel Lipscomb Shapard

Samuel Lipscomb Shapard (Sam) passed away on May 28, 2017 at the age of 88 while visiting his family in Colorado. Sam was born on September 19, 1928, in Griffin, Georgia. He was the son of the late Maynie and Evander Shapard III. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne, daughter, Sarah, and siblings Mary Jeanette Vance and Evander Shapard.

After graduating from Griffin High School, Sam attended the University of Georgia, where he earned a degree in Marketing in 1951. After graduation, Sam enlisted in the Air Force and served for four Samuel Lipscomb Shapard years. While stationed in Enid, Okla., Sam met Suzanne Jones, the love of his life. After a brief courtship, they were married in 1953 and immediatel­y left for Germany, where they lived for two years while Sam served there. After returning home, Sam and Suzanne relocated to Rome, Ga. where they founded Roman Chemical Corporatio­n.

Sam was an active and dedicated member of First United Methodist Church and the Adult Fellowship class. He was a member of the Rome Rotary Club. Sam served in leadership positions at the YMCA, the Board of Equalizati­on and the Rome City Voting Polls. Family and friends who participat­ed on the Rome YMCA Swim Team will always remember and appreciate his many years of dedication and service to the team.

Sam will forever be remembered by loved ones and friends for his friendly, kind, warm, humble, and joyful demeanor. He exemplifie­d what it is to be a gentleman, and he treated everyone he met with the same level of interest and respect. Sam adored spending time with his family, and he will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his children, Mark (Renee) of Aurora, Colo., Carol (Scott) Rees of Atlanta, Ga., and Van (Christine) of Denver, Colo.; and grandchild­ren, Spencer (Julia Bowen), Chandler, Samantha, Sarah, and Catharine.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Rome, Ga., with the Rev. Dr. Robert C. Brown officiatin­g. A brief reception will immediatel­y follow the service in the Sanctuary. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sam’s life. Mr. Robert Earl “Bob” Frazier, age 85, of Rome, passed away Friday evening, June 16, 2017, at his residence after suffering for many years from heart disease.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with his Pastor, the Rev. Millie Kim, officiatin­g. Interment will follow in the Frazier Family Lot in East View Cemetery with the American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard extending military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Monday from 5 until 7 p.m. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.
