MARIETTA — An Alabama man has been convicted of murder for the November 2014 shooting death of a Marietta man following a drug deal gone wrong, the Cobb District Attorney’s Office said.

Dwight Blalock Jr., 35, was convicted after less than two hours of deliberation by a Cobb jury Tuesday evening on multiple murder charges related to the killing of Carlos Wright, 32. He faces a mandatory life sentence.

Blalock was found guilty of shooting and killing Wright outside a Bellemeade Way duplex near Powder Springs Street in Marietta. According to the DA’s office, Wright and another man attempted to buy drugs when several shots rang out. Wright died on the pavement just outside his vehicle, a news release from the DA’s office stated, but his passenger fled and was not struck.

The case initially went cold, but Marietta Police continued their investigation, ultimately arresting Blalock in 2016.

Blalock was convicted of one count of malice murder, three counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of violating Georgia’s street gang act and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the DA’s office.

Cobb Superior Court Judge Robert Flournoy III has set sentencing for July 6.
