WEDNESDAY’S GAME RECAP

- How it happened: Who did what for Rome: On the mound: Next Game: Radio: RN-T.com.

Final: Charleston 14, Rome 1

Charleston accumulated 14 hits to go along with Rome’s five errors as the RiverDogs cruised to an easy win. Charleston scored five runs in the first two innings, then poured in six more runs in the fourth, all of them coming with two outs. Three singles and an error helped Charleston push the lead to 14-0 in the seventh. Rome scored its only run after Marcus Mooney hit a triple and scored off a groundout the next at-bat.

Catcher Carlos Martinez had a season-best day with four hits, all of them singles. Before Wednesday, Martinez had only recorded more than two hits once all season. Kevin Josephina went 3-for-4, getting three or more hits for the first time since June 13. Mooney recorded two hits, including the only extra-base hit and only run of the game.

Starting pitcher Jeremy Walker struggled through the night, allowing eight hits and nine runs, five of those earned, in only 3 2/3 innings of work. While Charleston would score more runs, the Rome bullpen did not allow a earned run in more than five innings. Kurt Hoekstra, who started the night at third base, threw one inning of relief and struck out two batters.

The Braves finish their series against the RiverDogs tonight, with first pitch at 7 p.m.
