Rome man escapes car after it bursts into flame

The driver is taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment.

A Rome man was taken to the hospital on Monday afternoon after escaping from his burning Oldsmobile after a wreck.

According to Floyd County police reports:

Benny Gladden, 78, was westbound on Horseleg Creek Road around 3 p.m. when he topped a rise on the road and collided with a pickup truck driven by Edward Womack, 70, of Silver Creek.

Womack said he looked in both directions before pulling out of Windsor Road and attempted to make a left turn to come back in toward Rome. Gladden’s car popped over a rise and struck the left front of the truck.

The car burst into flames and completely gutted the interior of the automobile. Gladden was able to get out of his vehicle but was taken to Floyd Medical Center and was still being treated in the emergency room late Monday night. Womack was not hurt in the wreck.

Officer Xavier Bray said he did not anticipate any charges would be filed because of the wreck.

Man charged with stalking, threats

A Rome man was arrested at his home Monday on warrants stemming from incidents that allegedly occurred in May.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Roderick Maurice Chambers, 36, of 8 Springdale Drive, is charged with aggravated stalking and making terroristi­c threats and acts.

Chambers allegedly

called a woman on May 9 and threatened to shoot her. He was court-ordered to not have any contact with the woman.

On May 22, Chambers is accused of violating the same order after banging on a window at the victim’s home around 4 a.m. and attempted to open the door to her home.

Chambers was being held in the Floyd County Jail Monday night without bond.

Man charged with motor vehicle theft

An Alabama resident was taken into custody in Rome early Monday morning when he was stopped in a vehicle that belonged to an Augusta resident.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

J.D. Trammell III, 28, of 208 Covington Avenue, Attalla, was arrested at the intersecti­on of East Twelfth Street and Dean Avenue. Trammell was driving a stolen 2008 Dodge Charger.

Trammell is charged

with a felony theft by taking a motor vehicle and misdemeano­r possession of marijuana, driving under the influence, driving without a license, a headlight violation, giving police a false name address or birth date, driving without insurance, driving a vehicle on a suspended registrati­on and identity fraud.

Trammell was being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond Monday night.

Report: Pipe with residue leads to arrest

A Rome man remained in jail without bond Monday night after he was picked up at a convenienc­e store with a pipe containing meth residue.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Christophe­r Dale Shadwick, 37, of 11 Cordle Drive was arrested at a convenienc­e store on Martha Berry Boulevard just before 6 p.m. Monday evening.

Shadwick had a pipe with a white crystallin­e

substance believed to be methamphet­amine in it.

He is charged with felony possession of methamphet­amine and a misdemeano­r for possession of a drug related object.

Man charged with possession of meth

Rome police took an East Rome resident into custody on a felony drug charge late Sunday.

According to Floyd County Jail reports;

Arthur Tremaine Adams, 44, of 139 East Fourteenth Street, was arrested at his home Sunday night.

Adams is charged with felony possession of methamphet­amine and a misdemeano­r for possession of drug related objects. Police found Adams with a pipe containing a small amount of the substance in it.

Adams was being held in the Floyd County Jail Monday night pending a $3,500 bond.

Man charged with aggravated assault

A 36-year-old Alpharetta man turned himself in at the jail on a felony aggravated assault charge Monday.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Jonathan Hayes Hackett, 36, of 198 Gale Crest Drive, was being held without bond Monday night.
