Mr. Lance Wheeler, age 67, of Rome, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017, at his residence.

Mr. Wheeler was born in Floyd County, Georgia on May 29, 1950, son of the late Newton P. Wheeler Jr. and the late Dorothy Kilgore Wheeler. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Suzann Jennings. Mr. Wheeler was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Dykes Creek Baptist Church and the Marine Corps League Jake Puryear Detachment #1020. Mr. Wheeler retired from the Millwright Local #1263 and at the time of his death was the caretaker for the Coosa Valley Fairground­s.

Survivors include his wife, the former Kathy Minshew, to whom he was married on June 1, 2000; three daughters, Larissa Perry, Rome, Rebecca Wheeler, Cave Spring, and Stephanie Choate and her husband, Kevin, Rome; two sons, Zack Wheeler and his wife, Ambrosia, Rome, and Dan DiPrima and his wife, Hannah, Rome; four grandchild­ren, Bella Perry, Lyndsey Sapp and her husband, Ben, Austin Sheppard and Talan DiPrima; a great grandson, Bentley Sapp.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Mikel Garrett officiatin­g and Mr. Keith Godfrey delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park with the American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. At other hours, they will be at Larissa’s residence.

Pallbearer­s are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and include: Active: Richard Tucker, Keith Godfrey, Fred Dent, Dan Caesar, Anthony Poole, Landon Price, Bobby Ray and Kevin Choate. Honorary: Coosa Valley Fair Associatio­n and the Exchange Club of Rome.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangemen­ts.
