The Floyd County Farmers Market at Ridge Ferry Park will be open this morning. It runs every Saturday and Wednesday from 7 to 11:30 a.m., ending on Oct. 7. Items for sale will include fresh vegetables, canned goods, jellies and jams, and craft items. The cost for vendors is $7 per space, which is due upon arrival. Parent to Parent of Georgia and the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services will offer a free training session with Jim Franklin, inclusion teacher at Rome City Schools, on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. at the Rome-Floyd County Library, 205 Riverside Parkway. The session will cover a series of mathematic­s manipulati­ves and a system of learning invented by Jim Franklin for all students including those with visual impairment­s. Academy LLC will offer a basic pistol safety training course from 1-5 p.m. on July 29 at the Charles C. Parker Senior Center, 1325 Kingston Road. The minimum class size is 10 students with a maximum of 20 students. This course is designed for first-time gun owners and students who are interested in learning the basic skills, knowledge and attitude in safely handling a pistol.
