‘Cars’ is free movie at Ridge Ferry Park Aug. 11

-

Lightning McQueen, Sally, Doc Hudson and Mater and the gang from Radiator Springs are the unforgettable characters in Disney’s animated movie “Cars.”

They’ll be on the big screen at Ridge Ferry Park on Aug. 11 when Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation continues its free Ridge Ferry Films series.

In the popular film, Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) travels to California to race against The King (Richard Petty) and Chick Hicks (Michael Keaton) for the Piston Cup Championship. But he gets lost after falling out of his trailer in a rundown town called Radiator Springs. While he’s there he slowly befriends the town’s residents including Sally (Bonnie Hunt), Doc Hudson (Paul Newman) and Mater (Larry the Cable Guy).

“We are so excited for this one.” said Sarah Grimes, event coordinator at Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation. “We are bringing some of the movie character’s “cousins” over to Ridge Ferry Park so the children can interact with them!” “We are happy to continue working with Heritage Auto Group and Parker Systems to make this a fun event for the community,” said Betsy Allgood, Recreation Manager at the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation. “We welcome the public to come, relax and enjoy the movie with their friends and families.”

This free outdoor movie will begin at Ridge Ferry Park at dark. The park will be open to the public at 6 p.m. for food and fun. There will be food trucks such as Bonez & Gristles, Don Neo, Three Rivers BBQ, Kona Ice, and Runnin’ Wild Catering. There will also be face painting, inflatables and a photo booth.
