2 enter guilty pleas in drug probe

Two of the defendants in a case that involved the smuggling drugs into the Floyd County Jail entered guilty pleas Friday in front of Floyd Superior Court Judge John Niedrach.

Floyd County District Attorney Leigh Patterson said Jason Ray Collins, 41, of 1099 Abrams Road, Silver Creek, entered a plea to traffickin­g methamphet­amine and was sentenced to 11 years in prison, 10 to serve. He was also ordered to pay a $200,000 fine.

Jeffrey Alan Hughes, 51, of 392 Arrowhead Drive, Dalton, pled guilty to one count of possession of methamphet­amine and was sentenced to five years, one to serve.

Five other defendants have yet to come to come to court in the case including Perry Otis Stillwell, 57, of 178 Reeceburg Road, Silver Creek; Bradford Wayne Hall, 47, 405 of N. Elm St.; Robert Wayne King, 59, of 785 County Road 92, Cedar Bluff, Alabama; Michael Wayne Huskins, 42, of 1399 Booze Mountain Road, Lindale; and James Eric Mackey, 44 of 119 Lawson St., Reidsville.

Back in early February, jail personnel were tipped by Floyd County Police, who had overheard a jail phone conversati­on about inmates having access to methamphet­amines. Jail staff quickly put together an investigat­ion with the assistance of Metro Task Force officers and the sheriff’s office K-9 team, which resulted in the recovery of five bags of meth from inmates.

All seven of the defendants were indicted on various violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. Street in South Rome.

According to Rome police reports:

The victim called police Friday and said that initially, as far back as March 1, she noticed food missing from her refrigerat­or. Then items of clothing, then tools, both hand tools and power tools, started to vanish.

The woman called police Friday after she discovered a laptop computer was missing.

The victim estimated the total value of items that had been stolen over the last five months at approximat­ely $1,000.

Gordon was charged with felonies for possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and a misdemeano­r for possession of drug-related objects.

Both Winston and Gordon were released from jail Saturday on $16,700 bonds.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

John Aaron Duvall Sr., 39, of 101 Garrard Ave., was returned to Rome Friday from an out-ofstate jail to face allegation­s that he took a 2000 Ford Super Duty truck valued at $2,000 from a victim who lives on Cave Spring Road on June 16.

Duvall was being held in the Floyd County Jail Saturday night pending the posting of a $3,500 bond.
