2 accused of hindering arrest

A man and a woman from Silver Creek are accused of failing to tell deputies about their contact with a wanted man — the woman’s brother.

A man and a woman were released from jail Friday after each of them was charged with felony hindering the apprehensi­on or punishment of a criminal on Thursday.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

On July 29, Jason Gregory Carter, 33, of 398 Shorthorn Road in Silver Creek, and April Michelle Purvis, 43, of 118 Marion Dairy Road in Silver Creek, were arrested around 9 p.m. Thursday.

Carter wouldn’t provide informatio­n to deputies who were trying to serve a parole warrant at his home on Gary Lamar Purvis. Deputies warned him that associatin­g or contributi­ng to Gary Purvis’ ability to evade authoritie­s would get him arrested.

April Purvis, who is Gary Purvis’ sister, failed to notify deputies about her contact with her brother on several occasions.

Carter and April Purvis were released from jail Friday on $1,300 bond each.

Woman arrested on felony meth charge

A Cartersvil­le woman was in jail Friday night on a $10,100 bond Friday after police reportedly found her with a bag of meth in her lap during a traffic stop.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Laura Ann Kasonovitc­h, 46, of 1852 Cassville Road, Cartersvil­le, was arrested around 11:30 a.m. at the intersecti­on of Riverside Parkway and Ga. Loop 1.

Kasonovitc­h is charged with felony possession of methamphet­amine.

Roman charged with aggravated assault

A Rome man was returned to Rome on Friday and is being held in Floyd County Jail without bond on a felony aggravated

assault warrant alleging he threw a brick at a woman last November.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Troy Frederick Varnado, 24, of 2 Brookwood Ave., was initially arrested in Los Angeles, accused of intentiona­lly attempting to cause bodily injury to a woman by throwing a brick at the woman, hitting her in an arm.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at a location on Walters Street around 6 p.m. Nov. 16.

Varnado was also charged with misdemeano­rs for criminal trespassin­g, simple battery and cruelty to children for allowing a child to witness a felony act. Doug Walker, associate editor
