Indictments include fake cop

In addition to the man accused of impersonating an officer by pulling over an off-duty officer, more than 30 more suspects are indicted.

- From staff reports

A man police say impersonated an officer and attempted to pull over an offduty police officer was among those indicted by the Floyd County grand jury.

Tony Arden Ruth was arrested on Feb. 14 shortly before 10 p.m. using flashing lights and driving aggressively in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop on another motorist, according to Floyd County Jail reports.

The report came from the driver, an off-duty Floyd County police investigator, who was on her way home from an evening in Cartersville.

Ruth started flashing auxiliary lights in his grill and shining what appeared to be a handheld flashlight at her car then followed her down Turner McCall Boulevard. The officer called 911.

Ruth is charged with felony impersonating an officer and misdemeanor aggressive driving and reckless driving. He also faces three counts of cruelty to children in the second degree because there were three young children in the officer’s car.
