Armuchee’s 9-run rally highlights 13-2 win over Model

Karson Fallin went 3 for 3 and Savannah Poole hit a 3-run homer for Armuchee’s softball team as the Lady Indians took control in the fourth inning to defeat Model 13-2 on Tuesday.

Lily Watson got the win, throwing four innings and striking out five for the home team. Armuchee was up 4-2 when the bats came alive for a nine-run rally in the bottom of the fourth, which included Poole’s bomb.

Sarah Barnes came in to pitch the top of the fifth and didn’t allow a hit in the Region 7-AA contest.

Fallin had two singles and a double to rack up two RBIs and score two runs for Armuchee (2-0, 1-0 7-AA). Whitney Sanford and Harlie Lewis each went 2 for 3, while Watson and Kassidy Kinsey went 2 for 4. Kinsey had two doubles and two RBIS, Sanford had a double and two RBIs, and Lewis had a pair of base hits and an RBI.

The game was halted in the middle of the fifth inning after the visiting Lady Devils failed

to cut Armuchee’s lead to less than 10.

Armuchee travels to Rockmart today for a make-up game at 5:30 p.m. while Model (0-1, 0-1) plays the Lady Jackets on the road next Tuesday. In other action:

The Rockmart Lady Jackets took a victory in dominating fashion as they put together a 14-run second inning in a Region 7-AA game at Coosa on the way to a run-rule shortened 20-0 win.

Rockmart’s Macy McNabb threw a no-hitter, striking out three in the three-inning contest.

Anna Lewis and Taylor Camp each had three RBIs for the Lady Jackets while Camp and Emma Evans had two hits each. Emily Maulding added two RBIs.

Rockmart (2-0, 1-0 7-AA) hosts Armuchee today at 5:30 p.m. Coosa will host Dade County next Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALL Armuchee splits tri-match

An evening of heated competitio­n saw Armuchee’s volleyball team stay at .500 for the season as the Lady Indians took a three-set match against Calhoun before getting swept by Darlington.

Hosting the tri-match, Armuchee (4-4) battled 3A Calhoun first, winning the opening set 25-20. The Lady Jackets recovered to take the second set 25-23, but Armuchee kept at it and won the match with a 25-22 final set.

Brandy Ann Wacker had four kills and seven aces for Armuchee while Brette Bata finished the night with 10 kills and Bridgette Jones had nine. The Lady Indians are off until next Tuesday when they travel to Cass.

Coosa stays undefeated

It’s 11-0 for the Coosa Lady Eagles as they continue an early season roll with wins over Heritage and Cedartown at home on Tuesday.

Coosa defeated Heritage from Catoosa County in three sets, 25-17, 18-25,

15-7, before sweeping Cedartown, 25-9, 25-10.

Taylor Roberts led a full-force attack by the Lady Eagles throughout the evening, recording 19 kills, seven blocks, 10 digs and 11 aces.

Kasey Thacker finished with 10 kills, four blocks, 13 digs, and seven aces, Debra Barker had 18 digs and five aces, and Brinley Smith had 30 assists between the two matches.

Coosa hits the road Thursday for a tri-match at Dalton with the host Lady Catamounts and Murray County.
